A soft cotton twill crown that sits down on your head rather than standing up off it. No stiff front panel, no plastic snapback across the back of your skull, and nothing to fight with when your hair is up.

Why it works

The crown is unstructured. There is no rigid panel holding the front upright, so the cap takes the shape of your head instead of sitting square on it. It folds into a bag and comes back out without a crease across the front.

The strap is fabric, not plastic. A woven cotton strap and a flat slider, so there is no row of plastic teeth pressing a line into the back of your head after an hour. Set it once and leave it.

The back stays open. The gap above the strap is wide enough for a ponytail or a bun to sit through it rather than underneath it, which is the part most caps get wrong.

The brim arrives curved. It is pre-shaped and held there by rows of topstitching, so you are not bending it into shape over a couple of weeks of wearing it.

One size, adjustable through the back strap. The cream is a soft off-white rather than a bright white, so it sits with the rest of the range instead of shouting next to it.

Fabric

Cotton twill.

Twill is the diagonal weave you can see running across the panels, and it is what lets the cap hold its shape without a stiff panel inside it. Cotton takes a wash better than a coated or bonded fabric, and it softens with wear rather than wearing thin.

Washing it

Spot clean first, with cold water and a little detergent, working along the weave rather than scrubbing across it. If it needs more than that, hand wash cold and press the water out with a towel rather than wringing it.

Reshape the crown while it is damp and let it air dry over something round. Keep it out of the machine and out of the dryer, which is what breaks the brim and shrinks the band.
